Of the zoo, that is.
On Monday last, we went to the National Zoo in Washington, DC. This is the first time I've visited this zoo.
Traditionally, in our family, we visit the zoo on the hottest day of the year. Or so it seems. Especially when visiting family in different cities. We have been to the Fort Worth Zoo when it was around 100 degrees. We've been to the Cleveland Zoo on super hot days. We've been to the Albuquerque Zoo. Guess what? It was hot there, too.
All this to say, it was hot and humid the day we went to the National Zoo. All this hotness doesn't make the animals very playful or energetic. It doesn't make me very playful or energetic, either. But we pressed on.
Thankfully, there are several indoor exhibits for the animals. With air conditioning. Yeah!
Here we are riding the Metro into DC. That was a fun experience for Abby to ride the "train."

By the "heffa-lants."
Getting a better view.
The zoo had several stations that sprayed out a mist so the patrons could cool off. Abby liked standing under it. She got soaked.
Talking to the Prairie Dogs.
Sleepy Panda Bear.
Regal Lioness.
"These monkeys are stinky!"
"Oh! They're so CUTE!" (referring to the babies -repeated about 50 times).
Cuddly Tigers.
At the end of the visit, Abby was too tired to give up her binky.
She promptly fell asleep on the way out of the zoo, right before we got back on the Metro. During rush hour.
Oh, to be three.
